Happy Valentines Day Illinois
Feb 16, 2013
Yesterday was the traditional day of love, flowers and chocolates and often ENGAGEMENTS! But in Illinois, yesterday was much more for those seeking to tie the knot.
The Illinois Senate approved marriage equality legislation with a vote of 34-21. Illinois is now one step closer to allowing same-sex marriage, and becoming the 10th state in the union to do so.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanual was quoted as saying "The freedom to marry the person you love is one that should be afforded to all citizens and, for too long, has been denied to our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters." The mayors office posted the above picture, showing the mayor giving a thumbs up on their facebook page today.
After being in business for 30 years, Michelle's Bridal and Tuxedo is proud to have been a part of many weddings, including many same-sex weddings and civil unions. "We are always proud and excited to be a part of someone's special day." said owner Michelle Schweighart. "We look forward to helping any couples from the Champaign-Urbana or surrounding areas prepare for their weddings."
Mayor Emanual also said "When two people love each other, no government entity should stand in the way of letting them express that love." And we agree. On Valentines Day there is nothing more important than love. Happy Valentines Day Illinois!
